Some interesting facts/metrics from the old site (with charts!)

Here are a bunch of (mostly) usless facts, stats, and anectodes that I discovered duruing the mothballing of the old site and the creation of the new one.  Some are pretty interesting and some are just strange.

  • The Poll/Survey on the original site for "Which EQ2 Race is your main character going to be?" had a total of 102 votes (Iksar won)
  • The least amount of votes ever was 11, which is the same amount we have on the first poll on the new forums
  • 6 people connected to the site using the text-only browser Lynx
  • Search engines accounted for approximately 16% of site visits
  • 432 people registered for the site, but only 4 ever contributed a story, with a total of 168 stories published
  • The site went live in July 2003 (6 years!) and has received 4,399,896 page views
  • Traffic increased steadily, spiked in 2005 (EQ2), peaked in 2007 (LOTRO), and has declined steadily since

  • Traffic has increased steadily each month this year, with double the page views for June as in January
  • Busiest Month: February 2005 (161547 Hits)
  • Busiest Day: 27 June 2007 (24762 Hits)
  • Busiest Hour: 03:00 - 03:59 on June 27, 2007 (4817 Hits)
  • It is unknown how much of that traffic is spambots

 

  • Tivein has the 7th highest post count, but hasn't posted since 2005
  • Tue Oct 26, 2004 1:29 am was the first time Kaj submitted a post in which the only content was the word "what"
  • Kaj's "what" posts became a trend and she repeated this on Thu Nov 03, 2005 11:53 pm, Fri Nov 04, 2005 10:45 am (two in the same thread!), and Wed Apr 12, 2006 11:35 pm
  • The General OOC forum has over 18,000 posts, nothing else even comes close, with The Meeting Grounds making a distant second place with 6507
  • The game-related (public) forum with the highest post count is Star Wars Galaxies with 5555 posts
  • The game-related (public) forum with the fewest post count is The Commonlands (EQ2), with 3291, bearling losing to WoW's 3321
  • Firefox version 0.9 beta was downloaded 210 times from our site, while the Thunderbird email cleint, version 0.7.3 Beta, has 495 downloads
  • The CoH pigg viewer has over 1400 downloads

And, my favorite:

  • There is a download directory for EQ2 with the description "Everything you need for Norrath."  The directory is empty
